Kazakhstan Is in Central Asia — and Partly in Europe, Depending on the Definition

PARTLY TRUE: Kazakhstan is purely an Asian country

Myth examined

“Kazakhstan is purely an Asian country”

Partly true. The United Nations classifies Kazakhstan as part of Central Asia. However, if the Europe–Asia boundary is drawn along the Ural River — a convention used by many geographers — the western tip of Kazakhstan falls on the European side. The answer depends on which boundary definition is used.
